Bumi is earth. We sell tree resin from Malaysian Borneo, and an easier way to use it.

Why resin

Damar has been traded out of these forests for centuries - for varnish, for caulking boats, for ritual. It is still tapped by hand, tree by tree, by people who know which trees are ready and which should be left alone. Very little of it ever reaches anyone as incense, and the little that does usually arrives with no idea where it came from.

What we actually promise

We name the source

Our damar is hand-harvested in Malaysian Borneo and traceable to a single harvester. Not "sustainably sourced". Not "ethically wildcrafted". A person, a district, a month.

We pay above the going rate

Above market for the resin we buy. It is a line in our own cost spreadsheet, not a line in our marketing.

Where the eucalyptus comes from

Our Eucalyptus & Damar blend contains eucalyptus leaf, and eucalyptus is not Malaysian. No eucalyptus species is native to Malaysia - the genus is Australian. Eucalyptus is grown here, in plantations, but it is a cultivated crop and not a rainforest one.

So we do not put "hand-harvested in Malaysian Borneo" across the whole range, because it is not true of the whole range. It is true of the resin. The country of origin of the eucalyptus is printed on every pouch.

The burner is manufactured overseas as well. We are not going to pretend otherwise.

What we do not claim

We do not claim that melting resin treats, cures or prevents anything. Damar has a long history of ritual and medicinal use, and that history is genuinely interesting - but a history of use is not evidence, and we are not going to sell you one as if it were the other.

We sell a smell, and a ritual built around it. That is the whole product, and we think it is enough.
